mentorship program
phase 1 : foundation laying (2014)
The first phase focused on testing content and delivery methods. MMMF ran weekly sessions with young people in Kibera - Nairobi’s largest informal settlement.
Using storytelling as a tool for empowerment, participants were taught how to blog, share their experiences, and own their narratives—despite the stigma and challenges of their environment.
This phase was crucial for grounding the program in lived experience and co-creating content with the community.

phase 2: cross-continental scaling (2018)
One of the in person accelerator sessions
The second phase aimed to create tangible outputs, test a financial model, and attract participants from across Africa. Through a mix of in-person accelerators and online incubator sessions, MMMF worked with over 30 mental health champions from 8 African countries.
This cohort-focused model emphasized project development, leadership skills, and cross-border collaboration, laying the groundwork for a scalable, pan-African mental health leadership academy.
