helplines

(Unless stated otherwise, these are 24 hour toll free helplines (at no cost). Last update: August 22, 2025)

This directory is a living resource (expect updates) to help Africans at home and in the diaspora access care. It builds on the foundation of Kenya’s first mental health support line, which I established and ran, supporting over 11,000 people in Kenya in its first year.

Helplines are grouped into the following core categories:

  • Child – Services for abuse, neglect, and youth-focused care.

  • GBV – Help for gender-based violence, including domestic and intimate partner abuse.

  • Substance – Assistance with drug, alcohol, or addiction issues.

  • Suicide – Crisis support for suicidal thoughts or behavior.

  • Support – Support for emotional, psychological, or general help.

Countries listed in pink have verified information (click to expand). Use the search bar to filter by country or topic (e.g. GBV, child, suicide, Kenya).

If you’ve used a resource that could help others, please share it here to keep the directory up to date.
