What it is:

The Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA) will host its 17th Annual Scientific Conference this September in Eldoret. This year's theme—“Community Mental Health in the 21st Century: Innovation, Integration and Impact”—brings together researchers, practitioners, and advocates to explore what it takes to build strong, sustainable mental health systems grounded in community realities.

Why it matters:

If you’re a clinician, researcher, mental health advocate, policymaker, or student working on mental health in African settings, this conference is a major opportunity to contribute to national dialogue, connect with peers, and share innovations or challenges from your own practice or region.

There’s a strong focus on locally relevant, community-anchored, and future-facing approaches to mental health—including how integration, accessibility, and cultural competence can be improved.

What you can propose:

KPA is accepting abstracts in line with the conference theme. You might submit work on:

  • Community mental health models

  • Innovations in psychiatric or psychosocial care

  • Access and equity in mental health services

  • Cultural and gender-responsive care

  • Case studies from Kenya or the wider region

  • Digital and telepsychiatry innovations

  • Research on stigma, policy, or systems change
